Former competition watchdog Graeme Samuel’s Toorak house has been snapped up after being listed for sale with a price guide of $8 million to $8.4 million.

Property scion Samantha Jreissati slapped a caveat on the architect-designed residence in Scotsburn Grove, public records show. The move will accommodate her growing family.

The three-bedroom plus study home, located in a quiet cul-de-sac, features a swimming pool and spa alongside an entertaining terrace with barbecue kitchen.

Mr Samuel is the former chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, and now a vice-chancellor’s professorial fellow in Monash University’s business school.

He recently led a capability review of banking regulator APRA that criticised the body for lacking the “enforcement appetite” to take on big companies.

He is now based in Brighton.

Kay & Burton’s Ross Savas, Darren Lewenberg and Robert Li were agents on the sale of the Toorak property.

Mr Lewenberg confirmed the sale when contacted by Domain but would not be drawn on the final sale price.

He said Melbourne’s housing market had come through a period of realignment but the change of government and cuts to interest rates meant its major challenges were now over.

“I think the general perception is the next six months are going to be far stronger than the first six months [of the year],” he said.

The buyer recently listed her half-floor luxury apartment in the Eureka Tower skyscraper in Southbank with a price guide of $8.8 million.

When contacted by Domain, Ms Jreissati, who is general counsel at Bensons Property Group, chaired by her father Elias Jreissati, declined to reveal the price paid.

Her new home will be “perfect in every respect” for her baby daughter, she said.

“Unlike her parents, our daughter loves outdoors, grass and the mess that comes with all that,” Ms Jreissati said.

“This was the first house we saw and we just fell in love with it.”

The debate “still rages” in her household about whether to live in an apartment or a house, she said.

“In a way, I am hoping that Eureka will take its time to sell, so we can still have [it] as an option if we felt the need to return.”

Elias Jreissati also lives in Eureka and previously sold his Port Melbourne penthouse for $16 million.
