Game of Thrones castle on NSW central coast up for rent with a $170 discount

A landmark castle on the NSW central coast is back on the rental market, and the owner has slashed the weekly rent by $170.

The lower-level of 58 Donnison Street West in West Gosford is up for lease and the owner is looking for “the next Jon Snow and Daenerys or anyone who loves the medieval era”.

Described as a local icon, the three-bedroom property has attracted quite a lot of people, according to Raine&Horne Gosford head of property management Katie Tilden.

“They were looking just more of a sticky-beak perspective,” Ms Tilden said. “But now the owners are advertising two weeks’ free rent.”

The owner has steadily discounted the weekly asking rent down to $350 since it was first listed in August for $500.

It is $90 cheaper than the median weekly asking rent for houses on the central coast, which declined in the September quarter, according to the latest Domain Rental Report released on Thursday.

“It’s definitely going for a steal at the moment,” Ms Tilden said, adding it was one of the last free-standing homes in the area.

It is also within short walking distance to Gosford station, which is attractive to tenants commuting to Sydney for work, according to Ms Tilden.

However, the owners were more interested in highlighting the property’s Westeros-esque features than the local amenities.

“There’s room to practice your swordsmanship in the generous living room with high ceilings or hold a banquet in the dining room overlooking your kingdom,” the listing states.

“Roast a beast in the new oven or boil your broth on the gas stove. The timber floors allow easy clean-up after disposing of your enemies, with lots of storage ideal for hiding away your secrets.

“Or, for the regular John and Jane, this house is a great talking point with magnificent views and loads of space.”

Ms Tilden said the owner – a fly-in, fly-out doctor who lives in the upper level of the “castle” – built the property two decades ago and was inspired by Europe’s medieval castles.
