After a well-publicised falling out with the state of California, rock’n’roll legend Gene Simmons has once again entered the hallowed 90210 real estate scene, purchasing an ultra-modern Beverly Hills mansion for US$10.5 million ($14 million).
Simmons, who will be coming to Australia with his band Kiss in March and April of 2022, announced he was ditching the Golden State earlier this year, citing California’s high taxes, natural disasters and handling of the pandemic as some of the reasons for his exit.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer was so serious about the move he even listed his longtime Benedict Canyon family home in March 2021 for US$25 million ($33.5 million), later selling the property in September for US$16 million ($21.4 million),
The Kiss bassist and co-lead singer told the New York Post he and his wife Shannon Tweed were moving to Nevada for a “quieter life”, after purchasing an 1115-square-metre mansion in the ski town of Lake Tahoe.
With the US just weeks away from an icy winter, though, the allure of California and its year-round sunshine must’ve been too much for “The Demon”.
His latest purchase is vastly different from his Benedict Canyon estate. The avant-garde four-bedroom, five-bathroom Beverly Hills mansion is decked out with a distinctive steel and glass exterior that features a host of up-to-date, environmentally friendly features.
Formerly owned by Swiss architect Roland Schallibaum, the quadrilateral 725-square-metre home is festooned with eco-friendly solar panels and a “green roof” covered in drought-resistant plants, which provides added insulation.
The angular mansion also benefits from numerous luxuries, such as a 12-metre infinity-edge pool with jacuzzi, home theatre, 18-car garage, manicured grounds, wine cellar, and uninterrupted views of the Los Angeles skyline.
The purchase may have been a shrewd investment on Simmons’ part, as property values across the United States continue to skyrocket, with single-family housing prices rising by 17 per cent year-on-year, according to Forbes.
