Australia’s richest woman, Hancock Prospecting boss Gina Rinehart, has listed one of her Brisbane riverfront properties for sale.

Rinehart, who has an estimated wealth of over $13 billion, is offloading her five-bedroom, four-bathroom contemporary house at one of Brisbane’s best-known riverfront addresses, Laidlaw Parade, East Brisbane.

A subsidiary of Mrs Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting, Wingfield Avenue, acquired the $4.95 million house on the river in East Brisbane in 2008, then purchased the neighbouring block the following year for just under $2.2 million.

The property, listed with McGrath New Farm prestige agent Henry Hodge, is described as “an unmatched opportunity in the Brisbane market”.

“With the ultimate potential to own one large, private residence with yard space or later developing the adjoining vacant lot (subject to council approval). Not often presented are the options to buy both house and vacant land together, in such an enviable locale,” the Mc Grath listing says.

Mr Hodge would not discuss Ms Rinehart “out of respect for the privacy of the owner”.

Neighbouring residents include another of Australia’s richest women, Sarina Russo, founder of the Sarina Russo Group.

Those keen to see inside a property owned by Australian mining royalty can go to the open house this Saturday August 12 from 11am to 12pm.

Features of the property include an elevated north-facing position on two separate titles, uninterrupted panoramic views of the Brisbane River and cityscape, an open plan living areas flow seamlessly to entertainers decks and Mox Security and c-bus systems installed throughout the home.

Ms Rinehart’s Brisbane investment portfolio includes a number of riverfront properties — her most famous being the record-breaking historic home on 3400 square metres at 46 Aaron Avenue, Hawthorne, which she paid $14 million for in 2014.

She also bought the adjoining land to the north of the sprawling property for $4 million shortly after, taking the total river frontage to about 60 metres and the land size to more than 4000 square metres.

Her Aaron Avenue purchase set a new residential property record for Brisbane at the time, which was only recently broken by the sale of a clifftop mansion at 1 Leopard Street, Kangaroo Point, for $18.48 million, in February.

Since purchasing the Aaron Avenue property, Ms Rinehart has reportedly made a number of improvements. Last year her representatives lodged plans with the city council to carry out master bedroom and boathouse upgrades and it’s understood she has installed state-of-the-art security.

Mrs Rinehart’s entities have a number of properties in Queensland.

In 2010, a $3,175,000 house on the river in Sutton Street, Chelmer, was added to the collection.

The two-level, luxury four-bedroom home was placed on the market last year but didn’t sell. It remains on the rent roll at Place Graceville.
