A luxury property that’s suspended on the water’s edge has won not one but three awards.
BCM Homes from Victoria has been crowned the Housing Industry Association’s Australian Home of the Year for their Separation Creek build on the Great Ocean Road.
The property was also awarded the Australian People’s Choice Home and the Australian Custom Built Home for 2024.
Director of BCM Homes, David Moyle, reveals there was an “extreme level of complexity” in bringing the design to life.
“100 truck loads of cement were poured on a steep and remote site on the Great Ocean Road,” he explains. “We then had difficulty with the structural steel and on-site glazing.”
In a press release by HIA, the judges were said to be “stunned” with the execution. The two-storey, concrete and steel residence, took 18 months to complete.
The home “moulds to the landscape” and offers breathtaking ocean views from the main living and entertainment zone.
A sleek geometric facade offers instant kerb appeal and the angular lines continue throughout the kitchen with a statement island bench.
Interiors take on an industrial feel with burnished concrete floors, solid timber detail and sleek pendant lighting.
A 600-bottle wine cellar will also ensure guests don’t go thirsty.
Moyle reveals the property is on the site of the 2015 bushfires where “around 115 homes were lost”.
The December 2015 fires impacted the towns of Wye River and Separation Creek in Victoria. South West Climate Change Portal estimates the total costs of damages to be between $60 million to $70 million.
