Without it, locals would have to travel about 20 minutes in either direction for fuel or vehicle servicing or repairs.

A mechanic looking for a tree change would receive a very warm welcome in Binalong, around 70 minutes from Canberra.

Locals are keen that the historic Binalong Garage continues to service the small town after the retirement of its current operators.

It houses the town’s fuel bowsers and is the go-to repair shop for everything from motor mowers to passenger vehicles and farm machinery.

George Southwell of Ray White Rural Canberra & Yass says locals are really hoping that a mechanic will see the potential of the business.

“It would mean a lot for the town to have that service continue,” he says.

“The garage has been an integral part of the community for a long time – without it, locals would have to travel about 20 minutes in either direction for fuel or vehicle servicing or repairs.”

Binalong Garage has a long history as a thriving small business and comes to the market in unfortunate circumstances.

Southwell says the opportunity could appeal to an individual or a couple looking for a tree change lifestyle.

Essentially, the structure is a tin shed with front facade cladding that sits on a 1352-square-metre block.

The open-plan garage includes a reception area, two vehicle hoists, ample storage and is serviced by a bathroom/kitchenette and dual access from the street.

There’s also a single bedroom unit with bathroom and kitchen at the rear of the block that “needs some TLC”.
