What ties Queensland’s famous Castlemaine Brewery to Domain Prestige’s roundup of the most incredible houses in the country?

The answer is a landmark property in Hamilton, built over 130 years ago for a Brisbane beer baroness, and now hitting the market with a hefty price guide.

Offerings in Toorak, Balwyn and Randwick complete our list of homes most Australians could only dream of owning.

The builders pulled out all the stops in the 1880s when putting this enormous property together.

Originally designed for Castlemaine Brewery co-founder Kate Quinlan, the Victorian filigree villa was designed by John Hall and Son and built using both local and imported materials.

Titled ‘Marie Ville’, Quinlan had many of the materials shipped over from England, creating what is still a hallmark of grand design today – think intricate lacework, lead lights, sash windows and ceiling cornices that feature carefully carved cupids.

With a massive 41.5-metre frontage presiding over impressive river and city views, the home has been meticulously maintained and comes with a pool and manicured gardens.
