A legendary Christmas flick serves up top quality real estate, and a buyer now has the chance to secure a piece of cinematic history.
The house featured in 1990 American comedy film Home Alone is on the market with a price guide of $US5.2 million ($AU7.8 million).
Macaulay Culkin, now 43, stars as eight-year-old Kevin McAllister who defends his suburban Chicago house from a home invasion on Christmas Eve. The tween is accidentally left behind on a family vacation to Paris.
The film grossed $US476 million worldwide ($AU714 million) and made Culkin a star.
The five-bedroom, six-bathroom home at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, Illinois, is listed by Kathryn Moor of Coldwell Banker Realty’s Dawn McKenna Group.
Built in 1921, the property is a classic example of a Georgian residence. Georgian homes are known for the symmetry, stone or brick walls, columns and lattice windows.
The listing references its cinematic history, describing it as the Georgian residence of “Home Alone fame”.
“Rare opportunity to own one of the most iconic movie residences in American pop culture,” the listing says.
The grand residence is situated on a tree-lined street behind a wrought-iron gate.
As stated on the listing, the property underwent a major renovation in 2018. However, the staircase in the entry foyer has been maintained, paying home to its Home Alone roots.
Part of the renovation includes the entertainer’s kitchen and family room at the rear, with French Doors that lead out onto the manicured gardens.
“Magic unfolds” on the third level with an old attic that’s been transformed into a suite that “doubles as a treetop escape with a full en suite bath”.
There is also a “wow factor” on the lower level with a gym, top-notch basketball court, wet bar and movie theatre.
Winnetka is residential suburb of the US, 26km north of downtown Chicago.
Records show the home last sold for $US1.5 million ($AU2.3 million) in March 2012.
