A home being sold in the US city of Minneapolis has hit the market with a unique selling point – it is smack bang in the middle of a busy highway.
Built in 1917 and showing every bit of its age, 3530 N Washington Avenue is a three-bedroom, two-storey home that would undoubtedly be an assault on the senses.
The cacophony of noise emanating from the Interstate 94 highway would be constant, while the smell of petrol fumes would surely be dizzying.
But that’s not all occupants would have to put up with. This humble weatherboard home has much more in store for anyone brave enough to call it home.
It’s also, quite literally, across the road from one of Minnesota’s biggest paper mills, which operates around the clock.
And, for anyone who hasn’t had the unfortunate experience of being close to a paper mill before, they tend to smell … a lot.
This is down to the processes involved in making paper, including something called the ‘kraft pulp mill process’, which can create a sulphur-like stench comparable to rotten eggs.
A glance at Google Maps also shows the residence backs on to what can only be described as a parking lot for small boats, and we’d hazard a guess there would be some unique smells coming out of that place too.
Despite these perceived shortcomings, though, the selling agent points out the home is “centrally located”, which is undeniable, and describes the property as “move-in ready” and “cosy”.
The cost? The house at 3530 N Washington Avenue will set buyers back $US189,000 ($255,000), and while it may sit at the centre of a highway, beside a paper mill and a boatyard, it could be worse – at least there aren’t any neighbours, right?
