A five-bedroom house in Weston set a new record for the suburb this week, selling for $3 million and beating the previous record by $750,000.
The recently built house at 65 Buvelot Street went under the hammer on February 8, with five registered bidders vying to make it their family home.
Conceptualised by Adam Hobill Design and built by Brother Projects, the home features a swimming pool and outdoor terrace, and boasts views of Mount Taylor and the Brindabellas.
Agent Mario Sanfrancesco of Blackshaw Manuka said close to 100 people viewed the home during the marketing campaign.
“It’s a pretty special house, and there were many buyers who came to see it,” he says, adding that the quality of the build and the location contributed to the record being broken.
“Geographically [Weston Creek] is in a very handy position. Cooleman Court is a very desirable local hub, and there are all the facilities in terms of schooling and everything else that a family would like.
“For your purchasing dollars in Weston Creek versus the Inner South, you can save $1 million to $2 million on what you can secure.”
Despite the median Canberra house price staying the same in the December quarter, buyers are increasingly interested in new builds, which tends to push records higher, Sanfrancesco says.
“There are many new homes being built in the vicinity of this one, and if they were to come to market [once completed], this record probably wouldn’t stand long,” he says.
“I currently also hold the house price record in Lyons, and that was a very well-done newish property, too.”
Auctions continue to be an effective option for vendors in the Canberra region, with a clearance rate of 58 per cent reported for the 95 auctions held last Saturday (February 8).
