The real estate listing described this house as having “sweeping Lake Michigan frontage” and, to be fair, it wasn’t wrong.

Now, the cliffhanger of a property in Wisconsin, United States, that brought property pundits to the veritable edge has sold for $US250,000.

Set on 11.73 acres of land with — no arguments here — beautiful views, the ranch-style house made headlines for its precarious position on the verge of falling off a crumbling cliff.

Aerial photos show the front of the house, which looks to be a very ordinary, if not quaint-looking, low-set house. The photos move progressively over the top of the house to the other side, where they show how shockingly close the house is to the edge of the cliff.

Part of the back patio appears to have fallen away.

The property listing described the house as “non-conforming due to its proximity to the bluff edge”.

From here, you can start to get a sense that this house is perched quite close to the cliff. The wonders of engineering, right? Photo: Supplied

Perhaps not surprisingly, the property took months to sell.

Marketing agent Jo Ann Vetter told Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that a powerful winter storm last year had eroded 30 to 50 feet of land from the owners’ backyard and put the house in jeopardy, adding that further rain compromised the stability of the cliff.

She said she actively discouraged some would-be buyers from making an offer, including some who thought it could make a nice holiday or retirement home on the water.

“Seriously folks, no. Sorry, you can’t do this,” she said.

“I was like, you may be using it as a houseboat,” she said.

It’s expected the new owner will demolish the house and reinforce the eroded cliff before building something new. Farther back from the cliff.
