A two-bedroom house for rent in the United States is hiding a bizarre secret in the backyard.

The property in Brevard, North Carolina, is described in the rental listing as a “beautiful cozy house in a great quiet neighbourhood”.

“Entire house was remodeled,” the advertisement states. “Kitchen is very nice with all appliances and there is tons of cabinet storage in the kitchen. The entire house is also fully furnished.”

What the listing doesn’t mention is the ring of toilets arranged around a fire pit in the garden.

In total, there are 11 toilets around the fire, each in varying states of disrepair. The toilets do not appear to have been used for some time, and don’t seem to be connected to plumbing.

It’s the only eccentric detail in an otherwise ordinary rental house.

The property is advertised for $US2075 per month – about $3260, or $817 per week.

The property caught the attention of baffled social media users, who poked fun at the strange garden arrangement.

“All fun and games until someone has one too many,” one Reddit user commented.

“Some neighbours just let their yard go to s—,” joked a second person.

The house was first listed for rent two weeks ago, with a price of $US2200 per week, about $3466.

It has since had a small price cut in a bid to attract more prospective tenants.

Future renters will be permitted to keep one dog and one cat on the premises, but the owner warns that any dogs must be under 18 kilograms and have “no destructive/anxious habits”.

Tenants will be required to pay a $US200 ($300) non-refundable fee if they want to keep a cat, and $US300 ($470) if they want to keep a dog.

The property has been listed for rent by the owner, who has opted not to go through a real estate agency.
