House from ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ hits the market ahead of Halloween

October 27, 2021
A piece of Hollywood horror history is up for grabs, with the home from 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' hitting the market.

A slice of horror movie history could be yours with the home from A Nightmare on Elm Street hitting the market just in time for Halloween.

Located in the Spaulding Square neighbourhood of Los Angeles, the property served as the home of tormented teen Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) in the 1984 horror classic in which serial killer Freddy Krueger murders his victims in their dreams.

If you’re worried that getting to sleep there could be a bit of a nightmare, have no fear. The film, directed by Wes Craven, mostly used the exterior of the residence, which has changed little. The iconic green and white facade is still in place. Very little was shot inside the home, aside from some footage of Nancy’s bedroom, Dirt.com reports.

In fact, once you step inside the Dutch Colonial-style home, built in 1919, it’s more home of your dreams than a nightmare. The renovated property is bright and open, with three bedrooms and four bathrooms across two stories and a large pool and guesthouse out the back. It features a ‘retro-modern kitchen’ and includes a formal dining room, family room and home office.

Still, the terrifying Krueger, known for his gloved hand with razors, has been enlisted to help sell the three-bedroom home. On top of the typical property listing shots, selling agents  Heather T. Roy and Learka Bosnak of Douglas Elliman have got their colleague to crack out a Halloween costume of the villain and perform some mundane tasks around the house, from reading a book by the pool to popping on some washing.

Those interested in Dutch Colonial-style home, listed for $US3.25 million, are being warned not to sleep on their offer, with bids due by midnight on the fitting date of October 31.

Old Freddy isn’t the only creepy character being enlisted to help sell real estate as Halloween approaches.

In Michigan, a spooky skeleton is being used to advertise a five-bedroom house with great bones – pun intended.

A home in Michigan has a skeleton in the closet.

This property too is not for the faint-hearted, though for entirely different reasons.

When the skeleton is not looming in doorways in listing photos or peering through holes in the wall, it’s attempting to clean up and paint the rundown home – and perhaps could be quite a help around the house if it was permitted to stay.

This fixer-upper in the city of Muskegon may have good bones, but it still needs serious work. The walls and floors throughout the home are dirty and damaged, with some also drawn on.

‘This massive fortress is not for the weak, but those who are willing to invest are sure to reap the benefits!’ the listing reads.

‘Its secret doorways, stunning woodworking, and five bedrooms will leave you breathless. Previously used as a duplex. *NOT HAUNTED*”

The property is listed for $US74,900 with Lisa Vela of Five Star Real Estate.
