You can imagine, with the late winter rains we had, how lush it’s looking out Warrandyte way. It’s always pretty gorgeous there though – the Yarra a muddy brown beauty as it cuts its way through town.

There are some beautiful properties here too; carved stylishly into the verdant surrounds.

Take this fabulous spread in North Warrandyte. Built by the owner 20 years ago, it’s a special affair that offers a brilliant family home, wrapped inside a labour of love brimming with gorgeous features.

Let’s come down past the car port, beyond the fish-shaped beauty of the koi pond, to the entry. Inside you come into the lovely formal lounge.  One of the great features of the house, the recycled timber pillars and beams, confer handsome heft and give the interiors an appealing gravitas. The north-facing glass out over the long verandah provides the exquisite light.

Curves are the other main feature here and a terrific arc of wall conceals the main bedroom behind the lounge. In here, you get a picture window with all those glorious green views, wall-to-wall storage and a fabulous, roomy en suite.

Above is a terrific large bedroom-office-retreat space with vaulted ceiling, views and a fine sense of sanctuary.

Heading back out across the lounge and to the north-east corner you find what is perhaps the most gorgeous room in the house. The living-dining space is a corker. You get light, loft and those lovely views as well as a super light fitting made by the owner.

Behind is the kitchen, another swirl of originality with a bench that tapers off over the stairs, granite benches, handsome veneer cabinetry, a walk-in pantry and a patterned stainless steel splashback.

South from here, just rounding back to the entry foyer, a passage takes you to a large laundry and storage area, central bathroom and two more bedrooms.

Head back out beyond the kitchen and downstairs to the bluestone walled study, perfectly hunkered under the staircase but with loads of light and access to the green grounds.

Adjacent is another bedroom, with more of that atmospheric bluestone.

Out on the land you get a deeply impressive array of space – from bush to more manicured blooms as well as an excellent grassy terrace, swimming pool, a billabong, large shed, workshop and vegie patch.

Bespoke and beautiful, balancing brawn and easy polish – grow a brood here and enjoy the bounty.

Room for improvement: Built 20 years ago, there is some modernising to do but scarcely anything more than cosmetic.
