You should see Eaglemont at the moment. Our balmy autumn and dry early winter has meant there are still some golden leaves clinging to the plane trees that line the streets here. When the sun shines through, it’s like you’re in heaven, or very close to it.

Of course the lanes and boulevards that wind up and through Mount Eagle are some of Melbourne’s most beautiful. Add to this some of the more atmospheric and distinctive houses and you have a recipe for residential bliss.

We love this house atop Albert Jones Court. It’s lovely modernist lines and beautiful admittance of light and brilliant views render it special.

Come up the steep-ish side drive to the carport and the entry sits to the front right. The glassy foyer is a fine introduction to the style here. Whitewashed walls, a lovely white timber sloping ceiling and warm floorboards flow to the north easterly front lounge room. Brilliant big windows take in the generous paved front terrace and garden in front.

Back behind here there’s access to more terrace space at the side as the footprint runs to a second living area with a beaut copper fireplace and clerestory windows to bring in more north light.

A formal dining space that rolls out to a covered terrace brings up the rear here while behind a wall to the right is the pretty, bright kitchen.

Back near the entry there’s a delightful small bedroom with a sharp en suite and behind here another appealing bedroom is serviced by the central bathroom with a terrific large tub and corner glass shower.

Head up the swirl of spiral stairs to level one and a small passage that takes you to a wonderful third bedroom with another en suite that boasts incredible city views. Across the way a huge bedroom with a full-width balcony offers more eye-popping vistas over the ranges. Divine.

Those curling stairs take you up again to the final level, where the fifth bedroom/retreat has its own balcony with an aspect to make you weep, as well as an  en suite and excellent walk-in robe.

You could do a touch of remodelling and updating here, but this place with its beautiful bones and luminous lines is wonderful and stylish as it is. Then there are those Eaglemont views of town and country to go with it – truly a striking package deal.
