Sick of having your property ambitions crushed? There is hope – maybe just not in Sydney.

And while you can get quite a lot in the fixer-upper category for less than $200,000 in Hobart, you might prefer something you can drive to. Even if it’s a long drive.

So if you’re looking for a place with a bit of personality on a limited budget one of these properties might be for you.

618 Beach Road, Surf Beach – $279,000

Okay, this one’s a bit of a cheat as the main building isn’t actually finished yet. But if you’d like a bit of a building project there are some advantages – it’s adjoining the Snowy Mountains Reserve, with views, easy lake access and the NBN on its way.

There’s also a log cabin on the property, so you don’t have to sleep underneath the stars. Kalkite is a bit over 20 kilometres from Jindabyne. See the listing here.
