'I wouldn't go anywhere else': A family home in Bellevue Hill is typically held for 20 years

January 25, 2023

As the name implies, Bellevue Hill occupies a sloping hill that gently descends to the glittering harbour, affording dazzling views to many of the lucky residents who call this prestigious suburb home.

The pinnacle of Sydney’s luxury living, the homes here typically rest on grand blocks, forming a striking scene of stunning mansions with beautifully manicured gardens.

Aside from its idyllic setting, the suburb is also gifted geographically, remaining close to all of the city’s conveniences and the harbour’s enchantment, attracting affluent families who wish to relish the finer things in life.

Bellevue Hill is one of Australia’s most desirable areas, attracting numerous celebrities and other well-known Australians due to its prestigious real estate, which is reflected in its median house price of $7.55 million.

“The suburb has one of the deepest markets in terms of buyer demand,” says Ben Collier, property partner at The Agency.

“A family home in Bellevue Hill is typically held for 20 to 30 years, particularly at the upper end. This creates a genuine lack of supply, meaning prices for the suburb are underpinned.”

Take, for instance, a property on Cranbrook Road which recently hit the market for the first time in over 20 years. This magnificent mansion, known as Monkton, is a prime example of the luxury and grandeur that defines Bellevue Hill.

“The owners have appreciated their strolls to the foreshores of both Rose Bay or Double Bay, taking pleasure in stopping in for meals at Catalina and The Boathouse,” Collier says.

“Since all three of their kids are grown up, they are looking to downsize. I’m sure the next family will enjoy these same luxuries, including its convenient access to excellent schools like Scots and Cranbrook.”

Life of leisure

However, it’s not just the lavish lifestyle that draws people to Bellevue Hill. According to Crave Wares owner Viviane Rubinstein, it’s also about the sense of community it provides.

“I’ve always loved Bellevue Hill; it’s where I bought my first apartment and where I decided to open my business in 2012, selling a variety of beautiful homewares to clients,” Rubinstein recalls.

“We are proud to be a part of a small shopping village that adds to the charm of the suburb.”

She says whether you’re having a coffee at a local cafe or bakery or meeting up with friends in a park, there’s always a sense of camaraderie and connection.

“Everything you could want or need is right here, so it’s easy to see why our leafy streets are brimming with joy,” she adds. “It’s a lovely place to live a leisurely life, and I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”
