Calling all sea changers — a Straddie icon that has been in the same family for nearly 50 years is up for sale.

After 31 years running the well known and much-loved “local store” at North Stradbroke Island, Jennie and John Truman are selling the property that has given them a lifetime of memories in a world renowned location.

Listed for sale at $3,495,000, the Truman’s home boasts unobstructed views overlooking Frenchman’s Bay and includes the fresh fruit and vegetable providore store called the Green Room and their new addition, the Blue Room cafe.

The property also includes a seafood retail rental shop and a comfortable three bedroom home. Set on a 622 square metre corner block, it’s being sold as a going concern.

The Trumans are well known faces at Point Lookout but they won’t be going far — with a family history on the island that dates back nearly five decades, there’s no way they’d leave their beloved Straddie, Ms Truman says.

“The property has been in my family for 47 years. John and I bought it off my parents 22 years ago and we have been running the business for 31 years (while) we live upstairs,” she says.

“It feels like a lifetime but it’s been a great place to live and work so it hasn’t ever been a chore.

“If someone is looking for an island change, then this is perfect. It cannot be built out and the property has two street frontages and it’s right in the middle of the village.”

Ms Truman says they still love their island lifestyle that sees their township swell from a population of 800 to over 40,000 visitors over summer.

“But after working seven days a week for 31 years, we decided that 2017 was the year that we stepped aside,” she says.

“We love where we live and we are both full on into surfing, fishing and the environment that we really just want to get out there a bit more,” she said.

The property features timber floors, open plan living, a commercial kitchen with cold room, staff amenities, classic brick fireplace and undercover decks with views.

The property is being marketed by Ray White North Stradbroke Island sales manager Chris Ransley.
