As if the idea of owning your own private island wasn’t already enticing enough, one off the coast of Florida has just been relisted with a near 30 per cent price cut.
Still not sold? Well you could say goodbye to utility bills as it operates completely off-grid and is currently letted out as a holiday rental for upwards of $1000 a night.
East Sister Rock island in Florida Keys has come back onto the market after five years.
The self-sustaining island was first listed for $US12 million ($17.15 million) back in 2011. Failing to sell then, and subsequently over the following years, it was listed again last December for $8.5 million.
According to the listing, the Bahamas style home was built in 1980 and sits on more than 5500-sqaure metres of land, in the string of islands which make up the southern most point of the United States.
Located just 400 metres off the coast from the city of Marathon, it takes just 45 minutes to get to Key West (the biggest city in the Keys) and two hours to Miami.
The house itself has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and is powered by solar panels and a wind turbine. There is also a generator on the island.
The property is surrounded by an enormous 260 square-metre deck, so there is plenty of space to pull out your banana lounges and catch some rays, or have a siesta in the hammock.
Of course, a private dock and helipad are included to make travel to and from your island paradise a breeze.
And forget going for your morning jog, how about starting your day with a swim and exploring the coral reefs which surround the island. Fishing and scuba diving are both popular recreational activities in the area.
Plus if you get sick of swimming in the crystal clear tropical waters, there is always the property’s above-ground pool.
Dream on.
