Sydney Sweeney has risen to stardom off the back of HBO’s, The Handmaid’s Tale, Euphoria and The White Lotus, so it’s no surprise the 24-year-old has cemented her status as a Hollywood mainstay by entering the LA property market.
Records now show that in November last year, Sweeney snagged a historic home in the Westwood area for $4.3 million (US$3m) which hasn’t been on the market for nearly 50 years.
Last for sale back in 1972, the former owners paid only $120,000 (US$85,500) for the house.
Described as a ‘rare offering’, the five-bed four-bath home is a fusion of traditional and Tudor styles, built in 1933.
Quiet and private, it’s set atop a hill overlooking the street far below. There’s a long staircase stretching to the front door, but if guests aren’t up for a bit of exercise, there’s actually a funicular with direct access from the garage to the front door.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Sweeney says, “being able to be in a house is such an incredible, humbling, amazing accomplishment that I still can’t believe I was able to pull off.”
The home has beautiful architectural features like exposed beams, fireplaces, casement windows, chandeliers and hardwood floors. The main suite enjoys vaulted ceilings and a built-in window seat.
However, if the dated kitchen and bathrooms are anything to go by, we think Sweeney might be looking to add her own stamp to the property. Filled with great character, an update could completely transform this into a dream home. First home buy and first renovation?
Outside, there are charming (if a bit unruly) gardens and loggia for shady al fresco dining, but the brick patio might need some attention. There’s plenty of space for Sweeney to add a pool.
Named 2021’s “AP Breakthrough Entertainer of the Year,” by the Associated Press, Sweeney also starred in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, in which she played a member of the Manson family.
During the pandemic, the actress also launched her own production company, Fifty-Fifty Films.
