After 25 years living across the pond, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne have had enough of California taxes, prompting them to relocate back to the motherland, the UK.
Despite loving the LA lifestyle, now 73-year-old Black Sabbath rocker Ozzy told The Mirror that “if they do the taxes better then I may come back.”
True to their word, the eccentric pair’s opulent Hancock Park mansion has now hit the market for a cool USD $18 million ($26.5 million).
If they get their asking price, the sale will rank the home as one of the priciest in the area – behind the USD $21 million estate recently sold by Shonda Rhimes and a USD $19 million mansion that transferred two years ago, according to Dirt.
As if you could expect anything less from the Osbournes, the gorgeous estate comes with an interesting backstory.
The home wasn’t on the market. The couple had seen photos of the home in magazines and fallen in love. Back in 2015, they then approached owner – Saw film producer Oren Koules – and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse (to the tune of USD $12 million).
Koules had renovated the Mediterranean-style residence with a contemporary and streamlined aesthetic, which didn’t fly with the Osbournes.
They then re-renovated the home to reflect its more true-to-form opulence and historical architecture, including glam furnishings and a maximalist ethos.
Designed in 1929 by architect A. K. Kellogg, the estate sits behind tall gates for maximum privacy on a half-acre lot.
Framed by oak trees, Italian cypresses, manicured boxwoods and a grassy lawn, the home offers over 1,020 square metres of living area with six bedrooms and 11 bathrooms (seven full baths and four powder rooms).
“An extraordinary chef’s kitchen opens to the family room, breakfast room, and outdoor dining area with pizza oven and barbeque,” the listing explains. “Immediately adjacent is a generous lawn, gardens and fabulous swimming pool covered in hand-laid mosaic tile.”
Other features include a grand entrance foyer, fabulous formal dining room, wood-panelled library, a plush cinema room on the lower level complete with fireplace and bar.
Upstairs, you’ll find four spacious en suite bedrooms, with an optional fifth bedroom. But the expanded primary suite is the main focus here, featuring dual baths with closets and “dressing areas fit for royalty”.
There is an elevator to access all levels of the home and above the garage, there’s a charming self-contained guest apartment.
Ozzy and Sharon still own two side-by-side (but unconnected) condos in LA’s Sierra Towers skyscraper, one acquired in 2014 for USD $4 million and the other purchased earlier this year for about USD $2.3 million.
