Kambah, Canberra’s largest suburb in area and population, sits between Mount Taylor and the Murrumbidgee River, the northernmost suburb of Tuggeranong.

The first homes were built in the 1970s for pioneering young families lured to the boundaries of the capital, close to bushland but with easy access to the major town centres.

Now, 50-odd years later, it still holds the same appeal.

Steve Lowe of Agent Team says the suburb lures many young families and first-home buyers “and those attracted to established suburbs offering space and value”.

“Kambah ticks all the boxes,” he says. “There are big blocks, stunning views from Mount Taylor [and] abundant sporting fields to burn off calories, and then there’s the Burns Club with Canberra’s finest all-you-can-eat buffet to enthusiastically put them back on.

“It’s the delicious circle of life!”

Indeed, you could probably never leave Kambah and find something new to do every weekend.

Try golf at the Murrumbidgee Country Club, clear some jumps at the BMX Track or listen to some live music at the refurbished Kambah Inn, which has become a real community hub, offering exceptional pub grub and cold ales.

If you’re keen to immerse yourself in some nature, the scenic Red Rocks Gorge is just minutes away, and Kambah Pool is a swimming hole that’s popular in the warmer months – just be aware of the nudist area!

Kambah is blessed with several shopping centres. There’s the larger Kambah Village centre on Marconi Crescent, with a supermarket and several specialty stores, including an award-winning butchery.

Over on Carleton Street is another collection of shops where the big drawcard is Little Theo’s takeaway, one of Canberra’s best spots for pizza and fish and chips.

Lowe says the Kambah property market remains steady.

“There’s a continued solid demand, especially for family-friendly homes,” he says. “Prices are stable, and well-presented properties sell quickly.”

According to Domain data, the current median house price is $867,500 and $620,250 for units.

Mount Vernon Drive, off Kambah Pool Road, is full of stunning homes and beautiful gardens. It’s tucked away in the Murrumbidgee golf course estate all on its own.

Kambah Pool is such a peaceful and scenic spot on the Murrumbidgee River. It’s a great place for a walk or a picnic. There are places to fish and take a dip, too.
