It took only a second in North Ryde for a suburb record to be shattered.
The flash new property set a fresh benchmark after only one bid at the weekend auction in Sydney.
A single flick of the finger from the buyer was all it took to take North Ryde’s market to the next level.
The opening bid for the high-end builder’s property was $4.3 million, already $290,000 above the postcode record.
The hammer dropped at $4.685 million.
Five bidders threw their hats in the ring and 13 registered for the chance.
Ben Boutros from Ray White The Ryde Group handled the campaign, with Alex Pattaro auctioning.
“The auction kicked off at $4.3 million, which was already well above the previous suburb record of $4.01 million,” Boutros said in the agency’s weekend auction wrap. “It was a very busy auction, capping off a highly successful campaign.
“We had 193 groups inspect the home during the campaign, with a diverse range of buyers – from extended families drawn to the spacious home and studio apartment, to young executives, people looking to upsize, and those who decided against building.
“The seller was a local builder who specialises in high-end properties. The buyers were a local executive couple with a young family.
“The luxury market in North Ryde is strong, and buyer interest is high. In the building market, there was a surge of new listings that came onto the market last week.”
The flash house with a pool, fire pit, enormous double height windows and a private main bedroom with balcony and a walk-through dressing room was bought by a young family, and clocked in as Ray White’s highest sale of the day.
The result contributed to Sydney’s 64.8 clearance rate, according to Domain.
The clearance rate to start spring was below last week’s rate of 65.3 per cent, which was a crescendo close to a busy winter market.
