One of Sydney’s most exclusive homes is due to undergo a further $10.7 million spruce up.
Plans have been lodged to update the historic Jenner House in Potts Point, which last sold for $30.35 million, according to the Domain listing.
The Regency Revival-style manor is regarded as one of the most significant properties in the high-end Sydney suburb.
The Sydney Morning Herald’s Title Deeds columnist Lucy Macken reported the buyer was Aussie “audio king” Peter Freedman, who debuted on the BRW Rich List in 2022 thanks to his vast Rode empire.
Rode’s well-reviewed mics and audio equipment spiked in popularity as the podcast and at-home sound recording trend took flight.
A publicly-available planning application lodged with the City of Sydney details that the works will be to conserve and restore the grand old house.
These include “landscaping, extension of the existing basement, new glass house and reinterpretation of the stables”, the DA summary says.
“The application is Integrated Development requiring the approval of Heritage NSW under the Heritage Act 1977.”
No other paperwork is as yet available and the plans are at assessment stage with the council.
Jenner House has been a landmark of Potts Point since it was built in 1871 and in 1999, the estate was added to the New South Wales Heritage State Register.
It was built for the Horden retail dynasty from a design by architect Edmund Blacket, a big deal for his time who also designed the University of Sydney and St Andrew’s Cathedral on George Street in Sydney’s CBD.
Other high-profile owners have undertaken significant restoration works over the years, as custodians of one of the great homes of Sydney.
Jenner House once had harbour frontage but that portion of the land was acquired for a navy base more than 80 years ago.
The three-bedroom apartment is in a complex designed by architects Woods Bagot and has Rushcutters Bay marina vistas.
Pretty as a picture, the apartment is on the ground floor of a stylish art deco building.
The handsome, balconied terrace takes pride of place in a beautiful streetscape.
