A Florida mansion formerly owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono is set to hit the market for more than $73 million.

The multimillion dollar Palm Beach estate, known as El Solano, was purchased by the couple in 1980 and is now being listed for sale for the second time since 2016, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Price expectations for the seven-bedroom, waterfront mansion sit at $US47.5 million ($73.56 million) – more than double the roughly $US23 million it sold for four years ago.

The estate, spanning some 1300 square metres, dates back to 1920 and was designed by American resort architect Addison Mizner, according to selling agent Christian Angle, of Christian Angle Real Estate.

In addition to seven bedrooms, the home has a library, oceanfront dining room, grand salon with a bar, two swimming pools,  a beachfront cabana and a three-car garage.

It sits on South Ocean Boulevard, a narrow strip of coastline near President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club. Singer Rod Stewart and author James Patterson also own homes in the neighbourhood.

Records show Lennon and Ono bought the house for $725,000 in January 1980, The Real Deal reports. The couple had planned on doing a large renovations, but this was put on hold when the late Beatle was killed in December 1980.

Ono later returned and completed the work, going on to sell the sprawling estate in 1986 for $3.15 million.

The house is currently owned by John and Cindy Sites. John Sites is a partner at the investment firm Wexford Capital while Cindy Sites founded Go Figure, a chain of fitness studios.
