A stylish, one-bedroom New York City apartment, formerly home to controversial musician Kanye West and his reality TV star wife Kim Kardashian, has been listed for sale with an asking price of $US4.7 million ($A6.9 million).

The rapper-turned-fashion designer first bought the SoHo pad in 2004, and expanded it in 2006 by buying a neighbouring studio and combining the two.

The result was a luxury, 225-square-metre apartment at 25 West Houston Street, designed by architect Claudio Silvestrin.

Even after a more recent update, the over-sized apartment reflects the severe and minimalist style West is known for, using neutral, earthy shades and materials such as stone. While designing the apartment in 2007, West and Silvestrin opted to place a slab of rough-hewn stone in the lounge room to act as a coffee table.

It has been reported the styles West came across while designing this apartment were used as inspiration for his YEEZY clothing line.

The home also features 1.5 bathrooms, a home-automation system, a rooftop deck with New York City views, a washer/dryer in unit, plus custom lighting and audio. The kitchen boasts a customised Gaggenau cooktop with Subzero and Miele appliances. The building offers a 24-hour doorman.

West sold the home last year, but still owns a luxury mansion in California, close to another mega-star rapper Drake.

West also just dropped $US14 million on a ranch in Wyoming. He has spent prolonged periods there finishing his last few projects such as Jesus is King, ye, and Kids See Ghosts.

Kardashian’s reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, is now in its 17th season.

CORE’s Emily Beare has the SoHo listing.
