If you’ve got the space, why not decorate your home with things you love.

A keen gamer, based in Newfoundland, Canada, has given his new house a very unusual feature.

He has built a DIY version of a Vault-Tec (Home Division) portal door from the game series Fallout as the entrance to his 92-square-metre basement.

Trey Hill, an IT worker, told PCGamer: “My wife said, ‘since you built us a house, the basement is yours to do what you want’. She may end up regretting that statement.”

According to Hill, “the hardest part was making the door fit the hole without having it fall through or sit twisty”.

He posted pictures of the work in progress to Reddit, where he asked for suggestions for the paint scheme, then followed up with an update.

The wooden door is decorated with a 404 website error code.

But Hill still has some finishing touches planned, including a hand scanner linked to an old PC

The Fallout series of games is set in a post-apolocalyptic world following a global nuclear war. The latest game in the series, Fallout 4, is due for release in November.
