The Kew house price record has been reset after a grand home listed with a price guide of $17 million to $18.7 million found a buyer.
Ross House, set on an oversized land parcel of 4585 square metres in the sought-after Sackville Ward, was marked as sold online after being marketed through Jellis Craig’s Geordie Dixon and Peter Vigano.
The previous suburb record was $12 million, according to Pricefinder data, and Ms Dixon confirmed the residence at 292 Cotham Road had set a new benchmark but would not be drawn on whether it sold within the asking price range.
“The vendors are very happy,” Ms Dixon said, adding the new owners were a family who planned to live there.
Built in 1889 in the Italianate style, the six-bedroom, five-bathroom home features a loggia facade that was a drawcard for buyers and wraps around renovated interiors with 4.2-metre-high ceilings.
Set in mature gardens, the home features a swimming pool with a pool house and entertaining areas, a tennis court, a gym, garaging for six cars, open fireplaces, a billiards room and a spa bath lit by one of the home’s stylish chandeliers.
Its location near sought-after private schools was another selling point. The residence has been tightly held, with only seven owners until its latest listing.
The median house price in Kew over the 12 months to September was $2.375 million, up 3.3 per cent from the previous year, Domain data shows.
