Kim Kardashian has spent more than $30 million to hold onto her California family home that she purchased and spent years renovating with the rapper formerly known as Kanye West.
The reality television star turned businesswoman reportedly paid her estranged husband – who officially changed his name to Ye last week – $US23 million ($30.8 million) for the Hidden Hills property the pair purchased for $20 million back in 2014.
The former couple spent more than six years gutting and renovating the home, which came with two pools, two vineyards and a large entertainment pavilion.
Now Los Angeles records confirm Kardashian has paid Ye $US20 million to keep the property, and $US3 million for the furniture – which was kept to a minimum – art and other contents in the home, the New York Post reports.
The property, once owned by Lisa Marie Presley, is now worth a reported $US60 million. The pair also spent $US2,975,000 on a neighbouring four-bedroom house on a 6000-square-metre block in 2019.
The sprawling home made headlines for its extremely minimalist design – not to mention its one-of-a-kind sinks without vanities – after it graced the front cover of Architectural Digest last year, with Ye describing its style as ‘futuristic Belgian monastery’.
Ye spearheaded the design of the property which has soaring ceilings throughout, walls of off-white plaster across the many rooms and is sparingly furnished with items made of other pale natural materials.
“[He] would come up with the most far-out ideas, and I’d say, ‘This is not normal. We need drawers!’ I was the voice of functionality,” Kardashian told Architectural Digest at the time.
Kardashian took to Instagram earlier this year to share that a minimalist living room – furnished with a couch, two armchairs, a coffee table and single artwork – was her favourite in the whole house. Again everything is in neutral shades of off-white and cream, which could be a nightmare for anyone who likes to eat, drink or just generally live in their lounge room.
The exchange comes after Ye paid a whopping $US57.3 million for another minimalist home in Malibu, and as he looks to sell one of two Wyoming ranches he has purchased for $US11 million.
