Kingscliff: The up and coming coastal hotspot experiencing astronomical growth

Property prices in Kingscliff are heading north at a rapid rate, buoyed by an influx of sea-changers, a lack of zoned land and a new $673 million hospital under construction on the town’s western border, due to open next year.

“It would have to be in the top five places in Australia for price growth,” says New Tweed Coast Real Estate Group agent Greg Costello.

“Everything was grossly undervalued here, and we’re still not back up to pre-GFC prices.”

Coastal paradise

Set in northern New South Wales, just a 15-minute drive south of the Gold Coast airport, Kingscliff is home to beautiful beaches for swimming and surfing, Cudgen Creek for fishing and paddleboarding, and bike paths connecting the town to Fingal in the north and Pottsville in the south.

Costello, who moved to Kingscliff 10 years ago, has lived in a number of places across Australia and overseas and says he has not stumbled across a better lifestyle.

“Every house in Kingscliff is within a few hundred metres of the beach, and it’s a very outdoor and fitness-oriented community,” he says.

“The secret is slowly getting out now, and people from the capital cities are cashing up and buying in.”

Nerida Dean moved up from Queanbeyan in 2012 and is now so firmly ensconced in the community she can’t imagine living anywhere else.

A life coach with her own business, New Directions by Nerida, Dean lives on the waterfront and has formed countless connections through Rotary, the church and volunteer work.

“I love the climate, I love that it’s still got a village feel even though there’s development and new people coming to town,” she says.

“I love the fact that the people have been so inclusive. It’s one of those places where, if you put your hand out, you will be welcomed.”

Every amenity

On Friday nights, Dean heads down to the beach for a barbecue with friends at Rowan Robinson Park, part of a recent foreshore redevelopment project, and she’s a regular at the local arthouse movie theatre where you can sip on a coffee or a cocktail while you watch a film.

Dean says one of the best things about Kingscliff is the unique local businesses that draw weekend crowds from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

There are also beachside markets twice a month, farmer’s markets every Saturday morning at Kingscliff TAFE, and first-Friday-of-the-month night markets at Rowan Robinson Park.

Marine Parade is the commercial heart of the town and a thriving wining and dining hub, with cafes, restaurants, pubs and clubs set opposite the beach.

And if you can’t find what you need, it’s a 10-minute drive to Tweed City Shopping Centre.

One to watch

It’s a one-minute stroll through the beachfront reserve to the sand and surf from this near-new, two-storey home.

Styled by interior designer Darren Palmer, the four bedrooms all have en suites, and there is a fifth bedroom or study, three living zones and a huge al fresco terrace overlooking the lap pool.

New Tweed Coast Real Estate Group’s Greg Costello is taking expressions of interest with a guide of $5 million-$5.5 million.
