Sydney shock jock Kyle Sandilands has splashed out on a tropical holiday home in far north Queensland.

The controversial radio host is believed to have paid about $1.3 million for the stunning three-bedroom retreat, which sits on one hectare and overlooks Mowbray Valley, just south of Port Douglas, according to a report in The Cairns Post on Tuesday.

Public records show the home was sold by private treaty on January 27 for an undisclosed sum.

Listing agent Callum Jones from Real Estate Port Douglas told Domain he could not “confirm or deny” the identity of the buyer or the selling price but said one of the most appealing features of the home was its privacy.

“It’s very private, it’s got amazing views, it’s so incredibly quiet and yet it’s still close to the centre of Port Douglas,” he said.

He added that the infinity pool with “stunning views” was also a stand-out feature of the home.

In addition to the wet-edge pool, the home boasts seamless indoor and outdoor living – popular in tropical climates – and a pool deck that doubles as an entertainer’s area, complete with a purpose-built pizza oven.

With international travel off the cards for the immediate future, many cashed-up Aussies have been putting their overseas travel funds towards a local holiday home.

Sandilands last week announced on air that he had purchased a home in Port Douglas.

“I just bought a house up there, it is that beautiful,” he said on KISS FM’s The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

Mr Jones said homes in Port Douglas had been in high demand since COVID hit, among both permanent sea changers and Australians seeking a place to holiday at home.

“It’s been really busy up here; we’ve had lots of people moving up from the cities as well as people buying a house for holidaying in because, let’s face it, not a lot of people want to holiday overseas at the moment,” he said.

Sandilands, a former Australian Idol judge who currently lives in a multimillion-dollar mansion in Woollahra, eastern Sydney, which he rents with his girlfriend Tegan Kynaston, also owns a mansion in the exclusive Holmby Hills neighbourhood of Los Angeles.
