A landmark riverfront mansion owned by the chairman of one of Brisbane’s most successful engineering firms is expected to set a new record for Yeronga.

Sprawled on 2725 square metres of manicured land fronting the river at Ormadale Road, the spectacular luxury residence belonging to Brendan and Rachael Rehbein includes marble sourced from around the world, a roof engineered to take a helicopter, full-size championship tennis court, nanny quarters, heated infinity pool and pontoon with boatshed.

Brendan Rehbein is the chairman of Lambert and Rehbein, a nationwide company of structural and civil engineers, project managers, and scientists.

The Rehbeins built the Italian Renaissance-inspired home nine years ago, sparing no expense in the process.

The property is scheduled to go to private auction on Friday, March 31 but it’s not the first time the Rehbeins have tried selling it – records show it was listed for sale in late 2015 for $8.95 million. The couple also purchased an $8.5 million property on Oxlade Drive, New Farm, that same year.

Marketing agent Patrick Dixon of Dixon Family Estate Agents says he expects Ormadale Road will break the Yeronga record.

“Yeronga is doing very well; there were a number of properties on the river that sold for around $5 million last year,” he says.

“And of those properties, none were on land sizes like this house is. Those homes were on 1000 square metre blocks – this is literally double the size – and the standard of this house is significantly better.”

The highest sale in Yeronga last year was the $6.1 million sale of a riverfront estate on Paragon Street, but the highest price ever paid for a house at Yeronga is $7 million, which was set in 2010 when Sally Diane Bizzell, the wife of Queensland mining company director Stephen Bizzell, purchased a palatial riverfront home on Kadumba Street.

The Rehbeins’ Yeronga house is a jaw-dropping offering. With more than 1000 square metres of living space spread over three expansive levels, it captures panoramic views of the Brisbane River across to St Lucia Golf Links. The property is set on two titles with 43 metres of absolute river frontage and is tucked away in a quiet, blue-chip street five kilometres from the CBD.

Inside, the house is as lavish as it is spacious – yet it is sophisticated and timeless in its design, with light-filled living spaces, bespoke fittings, plush wall coverings and rich soft furnishings reflecting the attention to detail that was invested in the design and build.

“They literally used the best of everything in this property – it’s quite extraordinary,” Mr Dixon says.

“Suspended concrete floors, the off-form dome in the library, the vaulted ceilings – even the cellar, a 5000-bottle air-conditioned room, has a French-inspired double barrel ceiling.

“No detail was left out here, everything is at that incredibly high end level. This is the epitome of luxury.”

Four of the six bedrooms have ensuites, including the fully self-contained guest/nanny quarters. The master suite is a stunning oversized retreat featuring a bespoke walk in wardrobe, spa, steam room and balcony overlooking the river. The flexible basement can accommodate up to seven cars (four lock-up) or four cars plus a generous workshop and additional area for gymnasium/yoga studio. The property is a 15-minute bike ride to the University of Queensland, with excellent public transport links close by.
