Chinese developer Yifang has unveiled its first project in Australia, to be known as Quartet – a series of four buildings that will replace 17 homes in leafy Lane Cove.
The former owners of the houses banded together to sell the nearly 10,500-square-metre site as a group in 2014.
Now, the developer has released the first of four buildings, Andante, at 18-22 Birdwood Avenue.
Quartets buildings will range from six to seven storeys high and will inject 227 new apartments and 10 “town terraces” into the north shore market.
A key selling point for Quartet is its focus on green space and the environment. Landscapers 360 Degrees, whose projects have included Plant Bank at the Australian Botanic Garden and the Ivy in Sydney’s CBD, are creating the gardens.
A spokeswoman for the developer says a range of eco-friendly and low-carbon materials are being specified for the buildings. There will also be LED lighting throughout, energy saving appliances, 60 bicycle spots and on-site composting.
Architects Bates Smart are working on the project. The firm’s director, Guy Lake, says the design has been inspired by the area’s natural beauty.
Ray White Projects is handling the marketing of Quartet and managing director Eddie Mansour says Quartet’s location near the heart of Lane Cove is a big drawcard, as it offers easy access to the city, Chatswood and Macquarie Park.

Developer Capital Bluestone has a habit of working with clubs to create community hubs.
First it was the award-winning Wooloware Bay town centre development with Cronulla Sharks Leagues Club. Now it’s Veridian at Kogarah, to be built over a new Kogarah RSL.
Stage one of the Veridian has sold out and stage two is now being marketed.
The 220 apartments have been designed by architects Scott Carver with Axlund & Goldstein interiors.
Capital Bluestone managing director Ben Fairfax says the development will provide a new lease of life for the RSL club. Purchasers so far have included first-home buyers, downsizers, empty nesters and investors, he says.

Nordon Jago Architects and interior designer James Treble were brought into create a boutique development of just six apartments close to the water in Drummoyne.
The apartments all offer three or four bedrooms and there are only two apartments per floor.
The area is not short of selling points – it’s only 200 meters to the ferry and close to the CBD. Within walking distance is the Drummoyne Swimming Centre, Drummoyne Sailing Club and the Birkenhead Point shopping centre.
Treble says he was aiming for an “elegant neutral palette” in selecting the finishes, which include arctic grey marble flooring indoors and out, Miele appliances in the kitchens and Villeroy and Boch fixtures in the bathrooms.
