Still holding tight to memories of high school?
Prospective buyers pining for the good old days of intra-school sporting glory, snogs behind the bike sheds and Sunny Boy icy poles dripping down blazers can reclaim their youth with this unique listing in the US.
The property in Indiana is a vintage high-school gym and basketball stadium, newly zoned as residential to open up a heap of potential.
“This is an honest to goodness treat,” the Zillow listing says.
The former Wilkinson High School gymnasium comprises a half-court for basketball, with original maple timber flooring.
You cannot tell from stepping onto the court, but within the footprint of the tried old building are four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
A new living zone has been added within the last 20 years to the 1950s structure, and other improvements, including roofing, have been made over the last two years.
“Would make fantastic day care or home for the basketball enthusiast,” the listing says.
The stadium seating and hoops are intact, although in need of restoration.
The kitchen floor is etched with basketball court zones – it appears that half of the stadium’s court has been repurposed as flooring in this and other parts of the home.
The asking price is US$299,000 ($438,000). There is no explanation on the listing as what happened to Wilkinson High School.
US media has speculated which teams once stormed the court in the retro basketball stadium.
An article on Sports Illustrated speculated that the “EH” midcourt logo may indicate it was once the home court of Eastern Hancock High School, which is in Charlottesville, Indiana.
