The desire for high-rise living in Gungahlin speaks for itself when you look at the sales result for the town centre’s new developments.

A third of Infinity Towers’ first release of 215 apartments have already sold and the development only hit the market three weeks ago.

The development’s penthouses sold for around the million-dollar mark, with buyers keen to own a part of Canberra’s tallest residential building.

Once complete, Infinity Towers will stand at 70 metres tall and be Canberra’s tallest structure after Telstra Tower.

The two towers will house 426 apartments, as well as commercial space on the ground floor.

The seven commercial units have all been sold.

Geocon general manager of development Peter Micalos says the buyers at Infinity Towers have been “a real cross section” of people.

“We’ve had particularly strong demand from the owner-occupier market,” Micalos says. “The mix of buyers has included younger professionals, as well as downsizers from the area.”

The development includes a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and Micalos says premium two-bedroom units with water views have been the most in demand.

“Buyers have been attracted to the floor-to-ceiling glass that surrounds most apartments, which maximise views,” Micalos says.

“Double glazing in the majority of apartments has also been very well received and the amenities included have also been a major talking point.”

Residents will enjoy resort-style facilities including a 2500 square metre sky park on the sixth floor with an infinity pool hovering 20 metres above the ground. There’s also the landscaped podium gardens with a barbecue area, an on-site gym and an exercise track.

Infinity Towers also enjoys a prime position in the heart of Gungahlin. It is just a two-minute walk to the Gungahlin Marketplace and adjacent to a proposed light rail station.

Developer Geocon, architects Peckvonhartel and landscape architects Spacelab have collaborated to create a complex that was designed to impress both inside and out.

Apartments include quality appliances, floor-to-ceiling windows and a choice of three interior schemes: Scandinavian, French Provincial and Modern.

One-bedroom apartments (44 to 69 square metres) are priced from $269,900 to $442,900, two-bedroom apartments (74 to 112 square metres) are priced from $364,900 to $519,900 and three-bedroom apartments (99 to 154 square metres) are priced from $569,900 to $899,900.

Construction will commence in August and completion is anticipated for August, 2018.

Future proofing

Alex Andric grew up in Gungahlin and is looking forward to moving into the rapidly evolving town centre.

The 19-year-old has purchased his first home at Infinity Towers – a one-bedroom apartment in the heart of the action.

“I like how Gungahlin is expanding,” Alex says. “The town centre is expanding like crazy and it will only get better with the tram. I think Gungahlin will become a main hub in terms of lifestyle quite close to the city.”

Redevelopment in the centre includes a $60 million redevelopment of The Marketplace, which will double the size of the current Woolworths centre, provide additional car spaces and add a Kmart to the shopping centre’s suite of retailers.

The ACT’s largest Bunnings Warehouse opened its doors in the town centre late last year and more than 650 public servants have relocated to the northern hub.

Gungahlin could also have its own cinema as early as 2018, with construction of the eight-screen Hoyts theatre expected to commence early next year.

The town centre’s expansion is good news for buyers in these off-the-plan developments, who expect to see good capital growth for their purchases.

“I plan on living there in the beginning, but down the track it’s a really good investment as well,” Alex says.
