There has been outrage online over the floorplan of a London flat for rent.

A social media user posted a photo on X (formerly Twitter) on May 5 of an apartment in Clapham in south west London.

The apartment appears to only have space to fit a bed, small desk and chair. There are a few shelves on the wall and a heater next to the bed.

“£1060 (per month) in Clapham. I spat out my drink”, the caption read, alongside several crying face emojis. This equates to around $AU2013 per month.

Social media was inundated with replies to the post, including one which likened the apartment to a “prison cell”.

Another said the price for what you get is “ridiculous” and “totally unjustified”.

The listing for the apartment may have been taken down at the time of publication, with various UK rental sites not advertising the apartment.

There is no mention on social media of whether there is a bathroom, communal bathroom or kitchen.

Clapham is a district in south west London, that’s become popular with young couples and professionals due to its central location and vibrant nightlife.

UK real estate agency Marsh & Parsons reveal on their website that the average rental price per week in Clapham is £300 ($AU569).
