For countless Canberrans, living in the Inner North or Inner South was once a mere dream – “One-day …” parents would say to each other, while making their way through the leafy green streets.
But with the surge of terraces, townhouses and apartments in these areas, the day to make this dream a reality has finally arrived.
Macleay Street N.10 is the newest addition to the Inner North – a collection of just seven two, three and four-bedroom terrace homes, located (not surprisingly) at 10 Macleay Street in Turner.
The development was designed by JUDD Studio, best known for the modern architecture and urban streetscape that makes up Lonsdale Street in Braddon.
Agent Chris Uren of Independent Property Group said Nathan Watt, lead architect at JUDD, worked alongside Brendon Hill, senior landscape architect from SPACELAB, to conceive “an urban design outcome that represents leading-edge contemporary design for inner-city, terrace-type living”.
“The exterior facade is an edgy mix of rustic Canberra red brick, standing seam walls and roofing and monument-grey window frames and trim,” Uren says.
“This contrasts with the ultra-modern interiors, designed by Kier Gregg and the team from Department of Design.”
Inside the homes are large open voids, crafted timber stairwells and floors, BOSCH appliances, double-glazed windows, convention, steam and induction cooking and reverse-cycle heating and cooling.
But most extraordinary is the deluxe three-level, four-bedroom home, which also contains a wraparound courtyard and private lift.
Buyers can revel in the choices available for the internal colour schemes, as they will have access to both the interior designers and landscape architects to create a home that fits their exact style.
“The design detail that has gone into each floor plan, into the landscaped garden areas and communal areas displays a deep desire from the entire team to produce an especially wonderful terrace home,” says Uren.
Right on the edge of the city, Macleay Street N.10 is a mere five-minute walk to Braddon and Civic – which means if you’ve got a craving for late-night dumplings or a cheeky cocktail or three, it’s basically available in your backyard.
The development is also 300 metres from the Elouera Street light rail station and 200 metres from Haig Park.
While there is more than ample car space for each of the homes, living car-free is a real option here. All garages are also being built so they can be easily converted into a workshop area or a studio.
“Macleay Street’s terrace homes will appeal to a wide mix of people from couples through to bigger families and active empty-nesters,” Uren says.
But potential buyers may want to get in quick as two of the seven terraces have already sold, including one of the spectacular four-bedroom homes.
Construction is due to start in April with completion expected in mid-2020.
