The seaside suburb of Main Beach truly sparkles, offering all the quintessential reasons why people move to Queensland in the first place: the weather, the beaches and the endless amenities and activities.

Yes, there’s the glitz and glamour, the upscale boutiques and award-winning restaurants, the vacations and staycations at the five-star Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort and Palazzo Versace hotel. But if you look a little closer, there’s a true sense of community to appreciate.

A postcode of prestige

According to Duncan Longmore of Kollosche, Main Beach is characterised by a mix of high rises and freestanding family homes, where people feel safe and enjoy a strong sense of belonging, making it an ideal place to raise a family or relax in retirement.

“Main Beach is a true playground for water lovers, with the unique feature of being bordered by both the beach and the Broadwater,” Longmore says.

“Whether you want to spend a relaxing day at the beach, launch a boat for a day exploring the Gold Coast canals, or simply enjoy the calm waters of Broadwater – it’s all at your fingertips.”

While Main Beach has always attracted an eclectic mix of relaxed beachgoers and boaties, Longmore notes how the demographic has changed significantly over the past three to four years.

“Traditionally, there were a lot of older residents who had been living here long-term, but we are now seeing a lot of executive couples and families move in,” he says.

“In particular, the return of people who grew up in the area, looking for the carefree beachside lifestyle that dominated their formative years and of which they have such fond memories.”

Fine dining and living

Along the suburb’s main strip of Tedder Avenue, palm trees soar, trendy boutiques dot, and refined restaurants come alive with conversation and the clinking of glasses.

Restaurateurs Anna and Scott Budgen of Shuck Restaurant – known for its signature sand crab lasagne – are familiar with these sites and sounds.

“Working and living in Main Beach is like being on a constant holiday; everyone is always smiling, and the sea air brings back memories of childhood getaways,” Anna says.

“Even though Shuck often hosts many people conducting business lunches, you’ll rarely see a suit or tie in sight.”

The couple’s three children grew up in Main Beach and now all work in the business.

Anna describes family life in the area as idyllic, with a great camaraderie that typically involves stopping to chat with neighbours on your way home from work.

“Between the beaches and the marina, the yacht club and all the new developments happening on our doorstep, Main Beach is the complete package,” she says.
