It’s the magical mix of some of the Gold Coast’s best beaches, finest eateries and high-end shopping that makes Main Beach an irresistible proposition, especially for interstate and overseas buyers who can’t get enough of the under-supplied property market.
Occupying prime real estate between Southport and the Pacific Ocean, this tourist hot-spot is home to nearly 4000 permanent residents who are genuinely enamoured of their slice of paradise.
Promotions expert Lynne Goddard first set foot in Main Beach in 1982 when she escorted the New Zealand media, their families and supporters to the Commonwealth Games and says she quickly “fell in love with the place”.
With her husband Bill, she bought a holiday apartment before eventually moving permanently to the suburb in 1983.
“It’s such a special place,” she says.
“Where else can you have the beauty of the Nerang River with Macintosh Park at one end and be able to walk to the beach from every street?
“There’s the Surf Club with its magical views over the water, Broadwater where you can see the super yachts and the magnificent boats, and the village – eating out in Tedder Avenue is a real pleasure, there are so many choices, which creates a really happy atmosphere.”
Goddard says she has seen many changes in Main Beach since she arrived and is enjoying the return to the halcyon days of the 1980s when “everyone wanted to live here”.
Kollosche agent Sam Guo says the area remains a firm favourite with business retirees and boaties, while new developments are bringing in a younger generation.
Home to Sea World, the upmarket Palazzo Versace and Sheraton Mirage Hotels and the Southport Yacht Club, there’s no shortage of entertainment and dining options.
At Marina Mirage you’ll find yacht brokers and health clubs, high-end fashion and pet boutiques, award-winning seafood restaurant Omeros Bros and gourmet ice cream.
On Saturdays, the ground floor forecourt turns into a foodie haven with a weekly farmers’ market featuring freshly picked produce, artisan breads and pastries and organic juices.
For Goddard, Main Beach offers an unbeatable outdoor lifestyle.
She loves to swim up at The Spit, on the northern tip of the suburb, and is a keen walker.
A favourite route is along Main Beach to leafy Macintosh Island, catching up with friends for coffee in Tedder Avenue afterwards.
Goddard is also a fan of the light rail which connects with the Gold Coast University Hospital and Helensvale, from where the train to the Brisbane CBD takes a little over an hour.
“Life can be as busy or as low key as you want it; that’s the pleasure of living here,” she says.
A top-to-toe renovation has delivered a homely, coastal aesthetic to this beachfront apartment in the popular Golden Sands on the Beach complex.
Lap up the ocean views from the open-plan living spaces, enjoy the northerly aspect from the balcony or duck downstairs for a swim in the communal heated pool.
Sam Guo from Kollosche is taking the home to auction on November 10.
