A majestic treehouse in suburban Melbourne has sold after auction for $1.6 million.

At one with nature, the “work of art” property in Eltham – on the leafy outer lip of the city – was auctioned in front of a curious crowd of 100 on May 27.

Number 10 Flint Street – with soaring tree trunks inside the living spaces – passed in under the hammer, Jellis Craig Eltham auctioneer and listing agent Matt Dougan told Nine, but sold afterwards by negotiation to a couple.

Two bidders chased the keys for the character-filled home, which had a campaign price guide of $1.5 million to $1.6 million.

Named The Treehouse, the home was styled perfectly by the owner to reflect its natural environment, Dougan said.

He said one of the highlights was how the property appeared to shift and change with the elements, depending on the way the light hit the interiors, through clerestory windows, capturing bushland views.

The property featured the rarely-seen addition of grand, white-painted tree trunks that reach upwards from the floor to touch the tall ceiling.

The flexibility of a fifth bedroom or a study is up a spiral staircase, with a lush garden vista.

The main bedroom has large barn doors, speaking to its emphasis on handsome, natural finishes.

Included on the block is a two-bedroom garden studio with a kitchen and living area.

Outside is a chiminea fire for staying out late to star gaze.

Dougan told Nine the home was rebuilt in 1999 and prospective buyers who toured the property were enchanted – one, he said, called it a “work of art”.

The median house price in Eltham is $1.195 million, according to Domain’s latest House Price Report (March 2023).
