Property watchers are afraid “something bad happened” in an old school for sale.
A former school in the US that has been converted into apartments is for sale for an incredibly low price.
For just $US1.09 million ($AU1.75 million), you can buy an original 1930s building with 56 bedrooms, 24 bathrooms, and 24 separate rentable units in Illinois.
So what’s the catch?
Social media users on Reddit have spotted a creepy-looking detail in one of the laundry rooms.
The concrete floor is covered in dark red splatters, giving the appearance of dried blood.
“Is that blood? No, never mind …” one user commented.
“Maybe the serial killer who has run this place is returning or too old to run the kill house,” someone else joked.
Other social media users were quick to point out that the red stains look more like paint than blood.
“Definitely paint, dried blood isn’t that bright,” said a commenter on the thread.
Some speculated that the floor may have originally been a dark red colour, and was subsequently painted grey. Over time, they suggested the original red may have shown through the floor due to wear and tear.
The photo of the laundry room has now been removed from the listing
Sinister red splatters aside, property watchers felt that the former school had a “haunted” vibe.
Dark brick walls, patchy green floors, dangling electrical cords and barred doors give the main corridors an air of desertion.
“Looks like a prison or school more than an apartment building. I wouldn’t live here as a ghost to be sure,” a user wrote.
“Yep definitely no disembodied children’s voices in there,” someone else commented.
The online listing states that the units have been “freshly painted” and were “very nicely remodelled about 20 years ago”.
The New York Post estimates the net operating income for the landlord to be $US104,072 ($AU167,130) after expenses.
