While the thought of bunkering down at an oceanfront Malibu beach house during the COVID-19 pandemic sounds like a dream for most, Matthew Perry has decided it’s a luxury surplus to his needs.
The former Friends star has just listed his laid-back Californian digs for $14.95 million, despite having spent some of his lockdown there, Variety reports.
Perry, beloved the world over for his role as Chandler and a four-time Emmy nominee, last appeared on television as Ted Kennedy in the award-winning miniseries The Kennedys after Camelot. He has owned the Malibu beach house since 2011, when he quietly purchased it in an off-market deal for $12 million.
The house fronts a beautiful stretch of beach and while it’s set on one of Malibu’s most prestigious streets, it does not stand out as a property owned by a Hollywood A-lister, sitting quietly between a number of other similar-looking boxy but not ostentatious houses.
Inside, the house features a stunning, open and loft-like floor plan with walls of glass that open to spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.
Spread over two levels, wood is showcased throughout; from the flooring, to the bespoke cabinetry, to the open-beam exposed wood ceilings that unify the living areas.
The colour palette is soft and earthy throughout and there’s an emphasis on the views and a deep deck that wraps around three sides of the house, making the most of the location. The main suite in particular boasts an incredible vantage point for those Malibu sunsets.
There are four bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, an outdoor spa and a state-of-the-art movie theatre.
Variety reports that Perry seems increasingly eager to lighten his real estate portfolio. Just over three years ago he plunked down $20 million for a sprawling, mansion-sized condo in a super-luxury tower in LA’s Century City, which he then put up for sale just over a year ago.
After originally listing it for $35 million, just a couple of weeks ago he slashed the price by more than 20 per cent to $27 million.
