A resort-style home in Mawson smashed the suburb sales record by more than $300,000 at auction last week.

Number 8 Jelbart Street sold under the hammer for $1.48 million, breaking the previous sales record of $1.14 million, which was achieved in February. Bidding started from $1.1 million and there were three registered bidders.

Independent Property Group Woden and Weston Creek agent Jonathan Charles says the home received a lot of interest before the sale with about 150 groups through for inspections.

“Everyone thought it was a beautiful resort-style home. It was really well received,” Mr Charles says.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home was substantially extended and renovated in 2009 and features magnificent alfresco entertaining areas including a large shaded deck, solar heated pool, covered outdoor kitchen and fire pit.

Mr Charles says both the buyer and seller were thrilled with the result and that Mawson has become a sought-after suburb.

“There seems to be a large calling for people wanting to move into the area.”
