Just 10 minutes’ drive north of the city centre, the exclusive suburb of Medindie is considered one of Adelaide’s top affluent suburbs, revealing grand historic homes and mansions with hushed grounds, from which many of South Australia’s who’s who reside.

While predominantly residential, world-class amenities surround Medindie, such as the Adelaide Park Lands; dubbed “Australia’s biggest backyard”, and the River Torrens Linear Park Trail; a 30-odd kilometre spectacular nature walk.

Add to this being at the doorstep of vibrant cosmopolitan precincts like Prospect Road, Walkerville Terrace, and O’Connell Street, resulting in the perfect recipe for a lifestyle of charm and convenience.

According to Stephanie Williams of Williams Real Estate, Medindie is favoured by wealthy business people, executive couples, and large families with children, who are seeking to establish themselves in the area for a long-term hold.

“Of the hundreds of prospective buyers we’ve seen through open homes, they consist predominantly of younger families who wish to live amongst the peaceful streets of this serene suburb,” says Stephanie.

“Its close proximity to the exclusive Wilderness School and St Peter’s College plays yet another strong factor as to why established families aspire to be in this premium location.”

Williams says the Medindie market remains incredibly strong, with buyer demand at an all-time high and showing no signs of slowing down.

This has seen the median house price rise to $1.855 million according to CoreLogic’s Suburb Profile Report, featuring in its top 10 suburbs in South Australia for capital growth in the past 12 months at nearly 50 per cent.

“Buyers will wait for many years to secure a property in this tightly held suburb, and we’re continually experiencing a very high level of enquiries for homes on and off the market,” explains Stephanie.

“Some of South Australia’s, if not Australia’s oldest notable families have invested in this location for generations, with Robe Terrace noted as ‘millionaire’s row’, due to the outstanding mansions and lifestyle estates it offers.”

Exuding the sense of glamour and sophistication that Medindie is known for, Ourania and Stan’s magnificent estate on the esteemed Robe Terrace is for sale and where they have happily lived with their family for the past 15 years.

“Walking past one day, we stopped in front of our house and Stan said, ‘this is the house that I dreamt of’, and we were lucky enough to purchase it for our family,” recalls Ourania.

“We lived here from day one, and have completed two major renovations and extensions since. Entertaining family and friends is something we love to do, particularly hosting Christmas celebrations, as there’s more than enough space for everyone to enjoy.”

Beyond the blissful privacy of their home’s park-like grounds, the couple’s family relish being at the centre of it all, being within easy reach of North Adelaide and the city, meaning they never have to venture far for all of life’s needs.

“We love Medindie for its idyllic and convenient location. We go on many walks, including strolling across to the parklands or the riverbank walk, venturing into the city, or visiting the Adelaide Zoo,” Ourania describes.

“Often, we simply enjoy just walking around our neighbourhood, admiring all the beautiful homes in the area – it’s always amazing to be around so much greenery, listening to the birds, yet still be so close to everything.”
