A mansion in Melbourne with a Batman entry to an underground room has taken luxe to an intriguing new level.

The glam estate is Domain’s most wanted home on the market right now, nationally, with the highest number of listing views of the many thousands of properties of offer.

Number 20 Heyington Place in Toorak is for sale in the realm of $34 million to $37.4 million and has hydraulic tilt driveway, marketed as “Batcave style“.

Named Devenescire, the property was built in 1933 and even after a modern makeover, it has remained faithful to its era, from the impeccable brickwork to the terracotta single roof and the leadlight windows.

The new-look house is the work of high-end architect, Stephen Jolson, builder Anthony Larne Constructions and landscape designer Paul Bangay, who recently sold his renowned regional Victoria estate Stonefields to friend and fellow gardener Jamie Durie, for a rumoured $11 million.

The driveway at Heyington Place is a feat of engineering in itself – more like a gallery than the entry to a garage.

Smooth concrete sweeps downwards, with spot lighting, and rounds the corner to an area for eight cars, a steam room and sauna, gym, wine cellar, lift and a theatre or rumpus room that could also be guest accommodation.

Up the lift, on the ground floor, is where the buyer and their family will gather, to play games in the billiards room or entertain in the ballroom.

The living and dining area – including a formal option – is on this level.

Take the lift again to the upper-most floor, where the bedrooms are located, including the main with a handsome walk-in robe space and a large en suite.

The self-cleaning swimming pool is set vast lawns which, the listing explains, could serve as space for a tennis court. Picture windows in the pool provide a shimmering underwater scene in the rumpus room and the gym below.

The listing is on the books of Marshall White Stonnington agents Joanna Nairn and Marcus Chiminello.

The median house price in Toorak is $4,737,500, which represents a 17 per cent decline over 12 months. Luxury-priced suburbs are often the first drop in value during the cooling of the market, so this mirrors a broader trend in the upper crust of real estate.

However, over five years, Toorak owners have made gains, with the median price up 6.5 per cent, Domain’s December 2022 House Price Report shows.
