Heavy metal fans with cash to splash can snap up a piece of real estate from rock royalty, with Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett putting his San Francisco home back on the market.
The heavy metal musician has slashed the asking price on the beachside home by $US3 million ($4.06 million). It’s sad but true.
Hammet first listed the four-bedroom house last year for $US16 million, then dropped the price a couple of times before pulling it off the market. It’s now back with a $US13 million price tag.
The elegant house, built in 1926, has a more subdued look than you may expect from a heavy metal rocker.
Tucked behind a gated courtyard entrance, the light-filled home has classic dining and living rooms, a large family room, remodelled kitchen and grand curved staircase.
Spanning 483 square metres the house, perched high on cliffs, has panoramic views of China Beach and the Pacific Ocean, framed by huge windows throughout.
The only hint of the home’s rock star owner are film posters from Hammet’s collection of horror paraphernalia, which has been featured in a museum exhibition and books published by the star.
Hammet, who grew up in San Francisco, also previously owned a neighbouring home which sold for $US12.8 million in March, according to local news site SFGate.
That property, listed in 2016, was also originally put on the market with an asking price of $US16 million. It was listed again in 2017 for $US13 million.
Hammett has been the lead guitarist and a songwriter for Metallica since 1983. He is estimated to have a net worth of about $70 million and was ranked 11th on Rolling Stone’s 2003 list of The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists of All Time.
