What do you do if you’re an absurdly famous Hollywood star trying to sell a multimillion-dollar Spanish mansion? If you’re Michael Douglas, the answer is to get your hands dirty and voice the listing video yourself.
The property is called S’Estaca, and it’s one of the most beautiful and alluring estates on the already decidedly beautiful and alluring island of Mallorca.
Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones have been trying to sell the property since 2014, when it was listed for $86.74 million. They’ve since bumped the price down a significant amount – it’ll only set you back a measly $47 million now.
“When I first saw S’Estaca in 1990 I also fell under its spell, and bought the property,” Douglas says in the gorgeously shot video. “Many of my friends have stayed at S’Estaca, and we’ve enjoyed wonderful times here together.”
Some of the friends Douglas refers to include Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jack Nicholson.
“Over the past 30 years I’ve put my own mark on the place, completely modernising and redecorating the old buildings,” he continues.
“My life has taken a new course, and now it’s time for me to let someone else enjoy the privilege and adventure of owning S’Estaca. Someone who will appreciate the beauty, the privacy, and the uninterrupted views. Someone with the vision of the creator of S’Estaca.”
So what exactly does that eye-watering price net you? The estate spans over 80 hectares and is located just 30 minutes’ drive from the city of Palma. There are seven buildings, including five apartments and two cottages, making for a total of 10 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms spread across a combined living area of 1000 square metres.
If you’re looking to catch a movie, there’s a home theatre. If you’re ready to work out, there’s a gym with a heated pool and massage facilities.
If you’re looking for something more relaxing, there’s a games room and library. And if you feel like cooking up a storm while ogling the outrageously beautiful scenery, there’s an outdoor kitchen.
And if that’s not enough, there’s also an olive grove and vineyard as well as a cellar to store the award-winning wine made there. Basically, this property has everything you could ever possibly need.
While it’s obviously a visual treat, the estate also has a remarkable history. As Douglas explains in the video, the land was bought in the 1860s by Austrian Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Habsburg.
One of the Archduke’s most intriguing additions to the property was a staircase he had carved into the stone wall of a cliff for one of his rumoured mistresses to climb.
Douglas has renovated the property in the years since he bought it, including the addition of stucco walls and various decorative accoutrements.
