Just when you think you have seen it all in real estate, along come identical houses built by identical twins.

The pair of homes in Southwest Ranches have an asking price of $US54 million ($78 million). They are available as a package deal.

With oodles of land – 4.45 hectares, all gated and secure – and a private lake with fountains separating the houses, the address is described on the listing as a “resort-style compound”.

One house is owned by chiropractor Robert Lewin and his family, and he built the other for his identical twin brother Harley Lewin and his wife and kids, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Mr Lewin told WSJ that he and his brother – and their immediate families – have always lived close and it was so natural that residing at a distance would be akin to “trying to clap with one hand”.

“Being twins, we’ve always been so close, so it didn’t feel right not living close to one another. Of course, during COVID, having our families together on this beautiful property was a great benefit and made it much more manageable,” he told the paper.

The homes are crafted in a French provincial style on the outside, but the interiors speak to the brothers’ individual tastes. One is decorated in a neutral and light palette, not unlike coastal Hamptons, and the other embraces a bolder aesthetic of black and white.

Each has a movie theatre, lofty ceilings and double-height windows in the living areas and enormous main bedroom suites.

In the outdoor zones, both have infinity pools, fire pits, areas for lounges that are beneath open stone pavilions, and al fresco kitchens and bars, with hibachi grills fitted in.

All up, the compound offers 12 bedrooms and 17 bathrooms.

The outdoor zones look out to each other, across the lake, so the occupants can wave from a sun lounge by the pool.
