While the top residential sales in Canberra this year failed to beat the top performer in 2023, the capital still recorded noteworthy sales from a collection of stately properties in the Inner South.
Buyers paid a premium to live on expansive blocks in Canberra’s most exclusive suburbs, such as Red Hill and Forrest.
The most expensive house went for $8 million for a property on Wickham Crescent, while the historical eight-bedroom convent at 28 Mugga Way came under the hammer on 9 November for $6.2 million.
This sale through Blackshaw Manuka just pipped the five-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 4 Sorell Street in Forrest.
Situated on more than 2500 square metres, the extensively renovated residence was also sold at auction through the agency for $6.1 million in May.
Elsewhere in Forrest, a four-bedroom, four-bathroom home on more than 2000 square metres at 9 Barkly Crescent transferred for $5.9 million through Luton Properties Manuka, while Belle Property Canberra sold an elegant four-bedroom home with an indoor pool at 56 National Circuit for $5.37 million.
The city’s most exclusive unit – although at three-storeys, one can hardly call it that – is thought to have set a sales record for the suburb.
The ultra-rare penthouse at 405/45 Honeysett View exchanged hands in a whisper-quiet deal in August.
In another deal for Blackshaw Manuka, the Adam-Hobill designed home at 38 Arthur Circle in Forrest cracked $5 million in February.
However, the palatial 82 Empire Court in Deakin still holds the territory’s record for the highest residential sale after selling for $9 million in 2022.
