The second stage of construction has begun at the new Molonglo Valley suburb of Denman Prospect.
Minister for planning and land management Mick Gentleman signalled the start of stage two with a sod-turning ceremony on Thursday.
Capital Estate Developments director Stephen Byron said civil infrastructure development for 34 multi-unit sites and more than 600 residential blocks had already commenced.
Stage two will also include the local centre. It will have a full-line supermarket and is expected to be about the same size and Belconnen’s Jamison and Kippax centres.
Development of stage two began in mid-February and the first two sub stages are expected to be completed in early to mid 2018.
“This will be a lovely place to live,” Mr Byron said.
“There’ll be views across the Molonglo Valley towards Lake Burley Griffin and an easy commute to the local centre and the ACT government school.”
Mr Byron said stage two would continue Denman Prospect’s commitment to energy efficiency with each house sporting a minimum three-kilowatt solar system.
The Homes for Homes initiative to help raise funds for social and affordable housing will also continue.
“That means homeowners can choose to donate a tax deductible 0.1 per cent of their property price to Homes for Homes at the time they sell,” Mr Byron says.
“Capital Estate Developments hopes to raise over $600,000 for this initiative from the sale of all blocks in stages one and two.”
Upon completion, Denman Prospect will be home to about 4000 dwellings.
